As harvest season comes to a close, many growers are looking for ways to extend the length of their production season, preserving the availability of local greens and other delicious crops while the temperatures start to cool down. This tour, led by David and Jen Greenberg (Abundant Acres), will review the season extension infrastructure at Abundant Acres, a certified organic vegetable farm in Hants County, NS. This discussion will also review decision making and/or production strategies that coincide with different technology and how this fits into different farm business models. The Greenbergs will also focus on how to make decisions about season extension methods that work for your farm and how those decisions may affect your farm's finances. In addition, with interest in optimizing winter's dormant period, any recommendations on overwintering and/soil-fertility strategies would also be provided.
