ACORN Community Outreach and Programming Coordinator

About the organization: Since 2000, ACORN has been the key organization for information on organic agriculture, eating organics, and connecting all the parts together. From seed to farmer to consumer, ACORN works to bring the whole picture together–making food choices healthier and more environmentally responsible.
ACORN exists to enhance the viability and growth of the Atlantic Canadian organic community through a unified regional network. This will be achieved by ensuring sufficient resources are allocated to the following pillars: education and empowerment of growers and consumers; fostering the organic network through collaboration; and support and action for progress on organic policy, sustainability, and food sovereignty.
Hours and terms: We are seeking an independent contractor to work 10 hours per week at the rate of $24 per hour for a one year renewable contract. Hours may be completed as needed with no mandatory set weekly hours. Note that more hours (15-20 per week) will likely be necessary leading up to the conference. With board approval, additional hours may be spent on specific projects as funding allows. This position has an ideal start date of March 1, 2024.

Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content, including social media, website, press releases and e-newsletter (e.g. original text, photos, videos and news)
Preparation and deployment of various campaigns, promotions, and communication materials
Communicate with followers, respond to queries in a timely manner
Facilitate communication and collaboration between partners and network members
Communicate with membership and maintain membership database
Coordinate key aspects of our in-person annual conference including venues, catering, accommodations, transportation, equipment and materials
Support collaborative planning and coordination of the annual conference program including registration, call for proposals, keynotes/plenary, workshops, social activities, field experiences and exhibitors
Develop conference and event communications, marketing and promotions
Coordinate farm field tours in collaboration with members
Ensure inclusive and equitable events that are accessible for all
Write and coordinate grant proposals and reports
Work closely with Atlantic Canadian provincial governments
Work closely with other organic groups, both provincial and federal
Review, as necessary, policies and advocate on behalf of ACORN
Commitment to collective work; ability to work in a team and without direct supervision
Excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and an ability to write for a variety of audiences (see below for language requirements)
Financial management, administrative, and organizational skills
Capacity to take on a flexible workload
