Crystal Green Farm is a PEI-certified organic farm located in beautiful Bedeque, Prince Edward Island.
Today, the farm is stewarded by Kathy Mackay, who continues the work she and her late partner Brian Turner began together more than a decade ago. Their shared belief in healthy soils, quality food, and community connection remains the foundation of every decision on the farm.

About the Farm

Originally established in 1989 as Red Isle Farms, the land began its transition to organic production in 2002 and received its first organic certification in 2010. In 2012, Brian and Kathy returned the farm to its original name — Crystal Green Farm — honouring both its history and their commitment to sustainable, regenerative agriculture.
Today, the farm includes approximately 165 acres of certified organic vegetables, grains, and oilseed crops.

Kathy maintains the core organic production while also managing a diverse mix of livestock — sheep, beef cattle, pigs, and chickens — raised naturally on farm-grown feed and organic hay. While the livestock are not certified organic, they are integrated into the farm’s soil-building system, contributing manure, fertility, and a full-circle approach to land stewardship.

Farming Philosophy

Brian and Kathy were among the early adopters of the principle “feed the soil, not the plant.” This philosophy continues to guide the farm today. By nurturing soil health, Kathy produces vegetables and grains known for their depth of flavour, nutrient density, and freshness.

What Crystal Green Farm Offers

Crystal Green Farm provides a wide range of products through flexible, pay-as-you-go boxes and market sales:

• Veggie Boxes featuring seasonal PEI-grown organic vegetables

• Meat Boxes with naturally raised beef, pork, lamb, and chicken

• Stone-ground organic Red Fife flour, milled on-farm

• Pancake, muffin, and cookie mixes made from the farm’s own flour

• Eggs and sausages (availability varies by season)

You can find Crystal Green Farm products through regular deliveries in Summerside, Kensington, and Winsloe, or visit Kathy each Saturday at the Summerside Farmers’ Market (9am–1pm).  The flour products and Baking Mixes can also be found through Growers Station - PEI's Food Hub.

A Continuing Legacy

While the farm has experienced great change in recent years, Kathy continues to carry forward the vision she and Brian shared:  to grow honest, healthy food for Island families and to leave the soil better than they found it.  Crystal Green Farm remains rooted in community, sustainability, and the belief that small farms can make a meaningful difference — one family at a time.
