Soleil’s Farm is a certified organic mixed vegetable farm located in South Melville, Prince Edward Island, owned and operated by Soleil Hutchinson and Lauren King. The farm began almost two decades ago from modest beginnings and today encompasses approximately 7 acres of vegetables and cover crops on a larger parcel of rolling pasture and woodlands.
Soleil’s journey to farming was rooted in her passion for community, food systems, and environmental stewardship. After earning a degree in Environmental Studies and gaining experience on a mixed vegetable farm in Oregon, she returned to PEI to establish an operation that celebrates healthy soils, local food access, and collaborative farming.
Central to the farm’s model is its farmer collective, through which Soleil and her partners supply a Spring Salad and Summer Food Basket program (CSA-style) that brings fresh, certified organic produce directly to Islanders. The baskets feature a rotating selection of seasonal vegetables and complementary products from other local producers, such as organic eggs, sourdough bread, and pasture-raised meat — creating a diversified local food experience and strengthening community ties.
Soleil’s Farm is also a significant contributor to PEI’s local food infrastructure, selling wholesale to restaurants and retailers and participating in founding and supplying Growers Station, the Island’s local food hub that aggregates and distributes products from multiple producers to broaden access across the province.
In recognition of its leadership in agriculture awareness and community engagement, Soleil’s Farm was awarded the Gordon & Sandra Sobey Award for Outstanding Efforts in Agriculture Awareness, a distinction that highlights the farm’s impact beyond production into education and food culture on PEI.
Soleil’s Farm remains deeply committed to healthy soils, strong relationships with eaters and chefs, and innovative models of community-based food systems — reflecting a vision of farming that values collaboration, resilience, and shared nourishment.
